WA: Missing fisherman made a shanty from car parts: police

16 Dec 2008 3:52 PM

Police in Western Austrlaia say a 38-year-old power worker caught rainwater and fish and pulled his car apart to survive eight days lost in the remote East Kimberley.

IAN GRAHAM and his dog were located at Cape Domett today .. 70 kilometres from where police believed he'd gone fishing in the Keep River National Park eight days ago.

Police say he'd slept in a shanty made from car parts .. that he erected after his four-wheel drive failed to start.

Mr GRAHAM had apparently told his wife he was going to Keep River but had always intended to go to Cape Domett .. mistakenly thinking it was part of the designated Keep River area.

Police say his car had failed to start after a day's fishing and got bogged in by tidal movements.

Mr GRAHAM's brother chartered a private helicopter to conduct his own search and located him early today.
